FR5 Software

FirstRate5® house energy rating software

FirstRate5® is an easy-to-use interactive tool with a graphic user interface that enables designers and thermal performance assessors to generate energy ratings for a home by tracing over floor plans. The software integrates the AccuRate calculation engine to estimate the annual heating and cooling energy and can be used to rate an existing design or as an interactive tool to optimise the design beyond compliance.

Release of FR5 v5.2.3b (3.13)

by FR5 | Sep 21, 2016

FirstRate5 v5.2.3b (3.13) is now available as a free download from www.fr5.com.au.

This version is a minor bug fix release with one new enhancement included. SV recommends that all users upgrade to this version.

Below is a list of the main items included in FirstRate5 v5.2.3b. Full details are available in the software Release Notes, which can be opened by clicking ‘Release Notes’ under the Help menu.

  • Fixed an issue that was causing the star rating results of some FirstRate5 files to reduce compared to the results achieved when using versions of the software prior to FirstRate5 v5.2.3. This issue was only occurring for project files with timber floors in upper levels where there were considerable amounts of walls not aligning with lower level walls.
  • Increased the time before added nodes disappear in the Plan tab from 3 seconds to 15 seconds.
  • Increased the 'Floor Height Above Ground Level' maximum limit from 100m to 999m.

Current versions of FirstRate5

All project files created using a version of FirstRate5 v5.2.3 (i.e. v5.2.3, v5.2.3a or 5.2.3b) will continue to automatically calculate on the FirstRate5 website. All files uploaded to the FirstRate5 website will be calculated using the v5.2.3b calculation engine.

Note: It is the user’s responsibility to ensure certificates are produced with the appropriate version. If a user chooses to inappropriately use an earlier version of FR5 to produce a certificate, they run the risk that a Building Surveyor will reject the certificate leading to further certificate costs.

Note: Installation of minor releases involving a letter change, eg,  v5.2.2b to v5.2.2c, will by default overwrite the previous version, while major releases involving a number change, eg, v5.2.2 (3.13) to v5.2.3 (3.13), will by default install beside older versions.

However, due to a minor error with the naming of v5.2.3a, this version will not be overwritten by the installation of v5.2.3b. This means users will see FirstRate5-5.2.3a as well as FirstRate5-5.2.3 in their menus. In order to run the latest version users should select FirstRate5-5.2.3.
